Welcome to the World Volunteer Week 2024 WVC2024 Conference!
Join us in Busan, South Korea from October 22nd to 24th for an exciting journey into fostering a sustnable future through volunteerism. This conference is hosted by the Busan Metropolitan City Volunteer Center and the International Association for Volunteer Effort IAVE.
Day one kicks off with Welcome Opening Plenary: People Power, where we'll hear from Mayor Park Heong-joon of Busan Metropolitan City, and Kyung-sun Chung, Chief Strategy Officer of Hyund Marine Fire Insurance Group. The opening will highlight how Busan become a global hub for volunteerism while celebrating the role of volunteers in delivering on the Sustnable Development Goals SDGs.
In Plenary Session II: Responding to Sustnability Challenges, industry leaders Noreena Hertz, Shrirang Dhavale from Tata Sons Pvt Ltd's Tata Sustnability Group, and Catalina Garcia from Anheuser-Busch InBev will showcase how their companies are addressing sustnability through corporate volunteering.
Plenary Session III: Tackling Climate Change will delve into the pivotal role of volunteers in climate action. With insights from Julian Quintart, EU Goodwill Ambassador for Climate Action, MARiA CASTILLO FERNaNDEZ, Spanish Ambassador to South Korea, and Yasmeen Shaheen-McConnell of the American Climate Corps, we'll explore collaborative efforts in mitigating environmental challenges.
For Plenary Session IV: The Next Generation of Volunteers, youth leaders like Lella Violet Halloum, Seung Yong Hwang, Blessing Ewa, Ye Eun Park, Mike Cheung from Hong Kong's Youth and Aged Association IAVE Board, Ana Paula Albin from Peru, Joshua Lustig from the US Embassy in South Korea, among others, will share global trs and youth perspectives on active volunteer participation.
The conference concludes with Closing Plenary: People Power, where we'll reflect on key themes and content shared during the WVC2024. Aarathi Krishnan of Raksha Intelligence Futures and Tapiwa Kamuruko from the United Nations Volunteers UNV will contribute insights, alongside representatives from Busan Metropolitan City Volunteer Center.
