THE QUEST FOR TRUTH: Integrating Science, Philosophy and Religion - Online School of the Wisdom SOW 2024

Dates: June 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 2024

Time: 1.5 hours per session

Schedule: IST India Time from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM, UTCGMT equivalent from 2:30 PM

Introduction:

In evolution, the pursuit of truth has manifested in three primary forms - Philosophy, Religion, and Science - which often appear as distinct and sometimes contradictory disciplines. Theosophy unify these approaches into a holistic quest for wisdom.

This online School of Wisdom will explore whether the integration of philosophy, religion, and science can complement one another towards achieving a more comprehensive understanding of truth.

The concept of 'truth' varies across philosophical and scientific contexts. In philosophy and science, truth is validated by accurately describing objective facts that exist indepently of perception. The scientific method employs hypotheses based on logical deductions, mathematical analysis, and empirical tests to gauge the accuracy of these descriptions agnst reality. Science's ultimate m is a continuous refinement oftowards closer alignment with actual reality.

In contrast, religion often embodies fth and belief systems not always subject to empirical validation; truths are perceived directly through unmediated sensory experiences that eliminate prior illusions, fostering personal spiritual transformation. Mrs. Annie Besant described Theosophy as the wisdom religion, emphasizing that only well-trned and experienced seers can avoid errors arising from projecting their thoughts onto observed facts.

The School will critically examine each discipline's strengths and limitations while exploring synergies for an inclusive understanding of truth.
