The journey towards enlightenment in Buddhism is fundamentally centered around mindfulnessa path with no alternative. This practice is the most direct method for liberation from the realm of conditioned existence, the world shaped by thoughts that obstructs our understanding of the ultimate truth. Mastery over this consciousness allows us to compreh the nature of phenomenatheir origin and inevitable dissolutionand enables the mind's growth into equanimity, freeing it from all contaminations. Ultimately, wisdom arises as we understand truth beyond the realm of conditioning.
However, enlightenment cannot be achieved through actions driven by volition, even if they are wholesome like almsgiving, observing the five precepts, or concentration meditation. These well-intentioned deeds may provide temporary benefits but fl to eradicate defilements at their root. It's akin to treating a disease with pnkillers instead of finding its curea superficial solution that fls to address the underlying problem.
To uncover this ultimate truth, one must first awaken from the world of conditioned thought, encountering all phenomenano matter how unwholesomewith an unbiased mind, devoid of fixation or entanglement. This is the sole means by which conditioning can be minimized and eventually eliminated entirely. Only then will the true nature of reality be revealed. This awakening is alien to our natural habits, underscoring the importance of study, understanding, and beginning mindfulness practice with an open heart.
