The 2024 Annual International Academic Conference on Chinese Buddhism, co-organized by Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery, the Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore, the Institute of Ethics and Religious Studies IERS at Tsinghua University in China, and the FROGBEAR Project at the University of British Columbia in Canada, is scheduled to convene from August 24-25 in Singapore. This event delve into the multifaceted aspects of Chinese Buddhist rituals and their profound impact on spiritual life across Asia.

Central Themes: The conference centers around the theme Chinese Buddhist Rituals and Spiritual Life in Asia, highlighting the significance of ritual practices as a conduit for understanding Buddhist philosophy, cultivating spiritual growth, and fostering community cohesion among Buddhists. These rituals not only reflect the religious doctrines intrinsic to Buddhism but also intertwine with traditional Chinese folk customs, marking their unique adaptation within the Asian cultural context.

Conference Objectives: The primary objectives include examining the historical evolution of Chinese Buddhist rituals from both local and global perspectives, exploring their philosophical underpinnings in relation to dly life, comparing ritual systems across Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, analyzing their sacred and secular dimensions as they contribute to Asian spiritual cultures, and scrutinizing their modern manifestations agnst traditional foundations.

Submissions: Scholars interested in participating are encouraged to submit abstracts minimum of 1,000 words along with a CV by April 24 via the emls: [email protected] or [email protected]. Accepted participants must provide initial drafts by July 15 and final revisions by late November 2024. Accommodation, meals from August 23 to August 26 arriving on the 23rd, conference dates are August 24-25, departure is on the 26th, along with publication stips, will be provided by the organizers.
