The Path to Enlightenment in Buddhism: Mindfulness and Vipassana Meditation as Taught by Luang Pu Pramote

The ultimate goal of Buddhism is liberation from suffering through mindfulness. There's no alternative path here.

Mindfulness offers the most direct route out of the conditioned reality, the world of thoughts that blocks our vision of absolute truth. When we detach ourselves from this realm of thinking, we can observe phenomena in their arising and passing away, thus gning wisdom and understanding beyond conventional conditioning.

However, practicing dhamma with intentionalityregardless if it's wholesome actions such as almsgiving or observing the five precepts, concentration meditation, or efforts to suppress unwholesome states like greedwon't eliminate defilements outright. It’s akin to treating an illness temporarily with pn medication instead of finding its root cause for permanent relief.

To uncover absolute truth, we must awaken from the conditioned world with a unbiased mind, engaging phenomena in all their formsincluding those that are unwholesomewith equanimity and without attachment or delusion. This minimizes conditioning until it ceases entirely. Only then does true understanding manifest. However, breaking free from the world of thoughts is not something we're accustomed to doing. Thus, studying, understanding, and beginning mindful practice with an open mind are crucial.

This collection compiles writings by Venerable Luangpor Pramote Pamojjothen known as Pramote Santayakorn, Santinun, or Ubasok Niranamwho published the first edition on November 1, 2001. The four chapters share a common theme of mindfulness practice, ranging from introductory to advanced levels.

Chapter 1, For You, the Newcomer: A Simple and Ordinary Essay on Dhamma, is suitable for any reader interested in Buddhism without complex terminology.

Chapter 2, A Brief Guideline for Practicing Dhamma, expands on Chapter 1's themes.
