The World Buddhism Association Headquarters, Holy Miracles Temple, and Sanger Mission united for a meaningful event on March 17th, 2024. The Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva Dharma Assembly was held in the Sakyamuni Buddha Hall of Holy Miracles Temple to honor the sacred birthday of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. This assembly symbolized unity among holy gurus, eminent monks, dedicated monastics, and local community members who came together to celebrate the boundless compassion and loving kindness of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, known as Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva in Chinese, is revered for his profound compassion and unwavering commitment to alleviating suffering. According to Buddhist scriptures, he attned Buddhahood eons ago as the Correct Dharma Realization Tathagata named Zheng Fa Ming Ru L. He manifests as a Bodhisattva driven by deep compassion to d beings in need, saving them from suffering. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is especially celebrated for his exposition of The Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, encapsulating the profound wisdom of Buddha’s teachings on prajna.
The assembly was guided by the Abbess of the Hua Zang Si Temple, Ruzun Ruohui, along with Dharma Masters JueHui and MiaoKong. They emphasized the importance of bodhicitta in Mahayana Dharma, which involves cultivating great compassion to save beings from suffering and the causes leading to enlightenment as a Bodhisattva. The teachings resonated deeply among attees, reinforcing their commitment to selflessness and enlightenment.
The event featured the recitation of passages from The Universal Gate Chapter on Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva from the Lotus Sutra, highlighting the virtues and profound wisdom of this compassionate figure. Attees participated in various practices like making offerings to Buddha, seeking blessings for happiness, prosperity, enhanced fortune, and wisdom. The gathering collectively aspired for world peace, cessation of disasters, and prosperity for all.
As incense filled the temple and prayers echoed throughout, attees were reminded of the transformative power of fth. This assembly was a testament to the unity among Buddhists in Pasadena and beyond, uniting them under the banner of compassion and enlightenment. The celebration served as a reminder of the uring values taught by Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
